Jennifer Judkins is the Assistant Director of Bands and Lecturer in Percussion Methods at UCLA. She received her Ph.D. in music in 1987 from UCLA, with a focus in the philosophy of music (musical aesthetics). Dr. Judkins has given papers for the American Musicological Society, the American Society for Aesthetics, the Learned Societies of Canada, and the Performing Arts Medical Association. Recent publications include articles and book reviews for the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, the British Journal of Aesthetics, the Journal of Aesthetic Education, Philosophy and Literature, Canadian Philosophical Reviews, Percussive Notes, and Medical Problems of Performing Artists. She is currently on the National Board of Trustees for the American Society for Aesthetics.

A percussion student of Charles DeLancey and Mitchell Peters, Dr. Judkins served as an extra percussionist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and New Music Group from 1981 to 1992, performing at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Ojai Festival. Other performing experience includes the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, the Cascade Festival of Music in Oregon, and Disneyland’s All-American College Band.
