Start the year off healthy, Bruins!

A common New Year’s resolution is getting intro a healthier lifestyle, whether it’s improving physical health by going to the gym more or improving mental health by exploring counseling resources. UCLA students have access to facilities and programs on campus that will help them meet these New Year’s resolutions and start their year off working toward a healthier life, both physically and mentally.

Keep reading for more information about UCLA resources for improving physical and mental health.

UCLA Recreation

UCLA Recreation (UCLA Rec) runs a variety of facilities, from the Bruin Fitness Center and John Wooden Center gyms, to the pools and beach volleyball courts at Sunset Recreation Center. UCLA students can sign up for classes and programs, quarterly intramural sports, or use the UCLA Rec gyms and facilities on their own time.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS offers counseling services and workshops to support UCLA students’ mental health.

CAPS provides both in-person and telehealth services for individual and group therapy. Students can talk to a counselor through appointments or walk-in hours, or they can get a referral for a therapist outside of CAPS. The Community Provider Database is a useful tool where students can search for therapists in the area who meet their specific insurance, location and specialization needs.

Mental health programming is also available through a CAPS extension called the Resilience In Your Student Experience (RISE) Center. All RISE center services are free and include an array of workshops, trainings, drop-in consultations, and self-directed resources. Check out the RISE center’s upcoming events through the link below.

Remember that health varies from person to person, and students should contact their doctors or the UCLA Arthur Ashe Student Health & Wellness Center for professional health advice.
