Transfers are an important part of the UCLA community; there are 7,748 transfer students enrolled at UCLA as of fall 2022, making up almost a quarter of the undergraduate student population. Further, 1/3 of the incoming class to the fall 2023-2024 quarter are transfer students.

The UCLA transfer acceptance rate differs depending on the school. In fall 2022, the admit rate for the College of Letters and Science was 29%, while the admit rate for the School of Film and TV was 4%. 

Statistics about admitted transfer students

UCLA provides priority to students coming from California community colleges and other UC campuses. Transfers admitted to the 2023-2024 academic year represent 106 community colleges of the 116 community colleges in California. Of the admitted transfer students of fall 2022, 93% were from California community colleges, 4% were from other UC campuses, and the remaining 3% were from California State Universities and other colleges. 

A total of 43% of transfers from the U.S. are first-generation college students and 72% of the incoming transfer class fall 2021 receive financial aid.

Transfer requirements

According to the UCLA Transfer Requirements page, the mean grade point average (GPA) for admitted students is above a 3.5. A significant deciding factor apart from grades is coursework; students who have completed more major prerequisites or related coursework tend to have stronger applications.
