Celebrating food sustainability and accessibility on campus: the third anniversary of CalFresh at UCLA
This month marks the third anniversary of the implementation of CalFresh acceptance on UCLA’s campus. With the start of another fall quarter around the corner, continue reading to learn more about where you can use the CalFresh program on campus and more.
The CalFresh program, also known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for California specifically, is a federal program that helps to support individuals with low income to purchase groceries. CalFresh helps to provide qualifying individuals with benefits of up to $291 per month.
The CalFresh program was launched in 2022 at the UCLA Store. Through electronic benefit transfer (EBT) transactions at various UCLA locations, Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) is helping to make food more accessible to Bruins while on campus. The UCLA Store in Ackerman Union was the first on-campus location to accept EBT, with other UCLA Store locations added, including the Health Sciences Store, LuValle Commons Store and, as of this past spring quarter, Hill Top Shop.
From prepared salads, sandwiches and wraps to microwave meals, snacks, drinks and cooking supplies, the UCLA Store locations offer a variety of food and grocery items for Bruins on campus.
