National Secondhand Wardrobe Week

Happy National Secondhand Wardrobe Week, Bruins! This holiday, celebrated during the second week of February, is dedicated to supporting local thrift shops and shopping secondhand. Keep reading for more information about how to participate at UCLA.

Coming soon, ASUCLA, through its UCLA Store operations, will launch a collaboration with Recover Brands, where UCLA students can drop off old or unused polyester or cotton T-shirts in a Recover bin located in the Ackerman Union location to be upcycled into new Recover gear, keeping them out of landfills through a circular textile recycling system. Consider donating old T-shirts this week or, if you are in the market for new eco-friendly additions to your wardrobe, browse a collection of the program’s recycled-material unisex and women’s UCLA-branded T-shirts available for purchase online and in-person at the UCLA Store.

In addition to serving as the home venue of the UCLA Bruins football team in the fall, the Rose Bowl transforms on the second Sunday of every month into the Rose Bowl Flea Market, the perfect venue for scoring secondhand finds. Other, more frequent flea markets include Melrose Trading Post and Silverlake Flea Market. For a more local flea market experience, Market 10:42 has hosted flea market popups featuring 40+ vendors at UCLA’s very own Kerckhoff Patio. Keep an eye out for future popups by checking out their Instagram @1042flea.

Besides a bustling flea market scene, Los Angeles is well-known for its thrift, vintage and consignment stores. Click here for a secondhand shopping guide by neighborhood from LA Magazine.
