Share blue and gold pride this Rivalry Week

Bruin fans, get excited for the annual UCLA versus USC football game on Nov. 29 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum! This matchup has been a longstanding tradition between our illustrious university and that other school across town, with the first game being played almost 100 years ago in 1929. As of the end of the 2024 season, the Bruins have won 34 football games, lost 53 games and tied seven games with the USC Trojans, according to UCLA Athletics. Rivalry Week takes place during the week leading up to the game. Keep reading to learn more about UCLA’s traditions.

Beat SC Rally

The Beat SC Rally is an annual event hosted by the UCLA Alumni Association. Details about a rally this year are yet to be announced. In years past, the event kicks off with a tailgate and rally at Wilson Plaza, featuring student performances from the marching band and spirit squad, as well as appearances from the team.

Victory Bell Swap

The Victory Bell was initially a gift from the UCLA Alumni Association and rung by the cheer team when the Bruins scored during the game, until it was stolen by the Trojans in 1941, according to the Daily Bruin. Now, it is a traveling trophy awarded to the winner of the crosstown showdown and painted with the color of that team. Last year, the Trojans took the bell from the Bruins, but we’re expecting to take it back this year.

Make sure to cheer on UCLA Football this year as they look to take back the bell and paint it blue and gold! Get tickets for the game from the UCLA Central Ticket Office.

Covered Statues

During the week before the game, UCLA covers iconic statues on campus, such as the Bruin bear statue in Bruin Plaza, to protect against vandalism from USC students. Across town, the Tommy Trojan statue on USC’s campus is also wrapped up to protect against UCLA pranksters, who have previously stolen its sword and covered it in blue paint, according to UCLA Alumni.

Rivalry Week is more than just a lead-up to game day — it’s a celebration of the traditions, pride and unity that make UCLA extraordinary. Whether you’re cheering from the stands at the Coliseum or joining the festivities on campus, let’s show the Trojans what it means to bleed blue and gold. This year, let’s bring the Victory Bell home where it belongs. Go Bruins!
