UCLA master’s social work
The UCLA Master of Social Welfare (UCLA MSW) is offered by the Luskin School of Public Affairs and is ranked one of the top 10 programs nationwide and in the top two among CA MSW programs offered by public universities. The UCLA social work master’s program is a two-year full-time program comprising coursework and two separate year-long field work placements with social work agencies. Applicants to the UCLA MSW program must meet all of UCLA’s minimum requirements for graduate program applicants and must submit the departmental application, official transcripts from every school attended since high school, a professional resume and a statement of purpose. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and have taken one course in elementary statistics and four courses in the socio-behavioral sciences. The Department of Social Welfare also offers concurrent UCLA MSW degree programs with other UCLA graduate departments. Applicants are required to satisfy the admissions requirements of both programs. Offerings include Social Welfare, M.S.W./Law, J.D.; Social Welfare, M.S.W./Asian American Studies, M.A.; Social Welfare, M.S.W./Public Health, M.P.H.; and Social Welfare, M.S.W./Public Policy, M.P.P. Within the UCLA MSW program, students can specialize in concentrations including social work practice in social and economic justice; health and mental health across the lifespan; and child and family well-being. Students interested in the Child and Family Well-Being area of concentration have the option of completing the degree part-time over three years, taking classes in the morning and completing required internship hours over the course of the academic program.
