Welcoming Bruins to another school year
As we near the beginning of the school year, there’s no better way to be welcomed back to UCLA than Welcome Week! Keep reading for ideas about what events to attend and how to make the most out of the week — for students, by students.
Though classes normally begin on Monday of Week 1, during fall quarter there is a shortened, extra week at the beginning of the quarter where classes begin on Thursday called Week 0. This year, classes begin on Sept. 24, but during this entire week from September 20-26, Welcome Week is held, where students move in, participate in various campus events and get ready for another great year!
The following are some events to consider attending during this week, categorized by academic, social and professional focus. For a complete list of events during Week 0, click here.
Academic
New Student Welcome 9/20: Is it your first year at UCLA? Whether you are an incoming direct-entry or transfer student, meet other new undergrads at this event at Pauley Pavilion Presented by Wescom Financial.
Academic open houses 9/23: Meet faculty and staff from your department and learn about degree paths, internships and more at departmental open houses taking place across campus.
Social
Football game 9/19: Get out to the Rose Bowl to watch the Bruins take on Purdue in the first Big Ten conference game of the season.
Block party 9/20: Explore Westwood Village with thousands of other students! Play games, eat food and visit vendors in UCLA’s neighborhood. Learn more about ASUCLA at our block party table and get a coupon book and a chance to spin a wheel for a prize.
Bruin Bash 9/21: Make sure to queue for tickets to Bruin Bash online to attend this UCLA student-only concert at the Los Angeles Tennis Center on campus, and follow the @bruinbash Instagram account for updates on the artists performing. Also, ASUCLA Coffeehouses are offering limited-time drinks commemorating Bruin Bash beginning Sept. 1 until Sept. 21. Stop by and try the cotton candy flavored Bruin Bash Iced Blend at Bruin Buzz and the Bruin Bash S’mores Iced Blend at Kerckhoff Coffeehouse.

ASUCLA Job Fair 9/22: Come learn about ASUCLA’s student-centered workforce and even potentially get hired on the spot at ASUCLA’s annual Job Fair on Sept. 22 in the Ackerman Grand Ballroom in Ackerman Union from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Enormous Activities Fair 9/22: Discover UCLA’s 500+ student clubs and organizations. Whether you are interested in playing a sport, jumpstarting your career with pre-professional groups or looking to find people who also like your hobbies, there is something for everyone at the EAF.
GSA & USA Open Houses 9/23: Head to the government offices, USAC offices & GSA Lounge on the third floor of Kerckhoff Hall to learn how USAC, GSA and student leaders work to represent you and how you can get involved. Enjoy free snacks, chances to win prizes and the opportunity to meet student leaders.
For all incoming or returning students, getting involved with Welcome Week is great, but you don’t need to pressure yourself to go to every single thing. Craft your schedule this week intentionally to get the most out of the events you do go to and know it’s okay to leave time to be spontaneous as well.
