CalFresh acceptance expands to a fourth UCLA Store location
CalFresh acceptance is expanding to the fourth UCLA Store location, Hilltop Shop, improving food accessibility on campus.
Los Angeles, Calif., April 22, 2025 – CalFresh access continues to grow on the UCLA campus, with this essential service now offered at a fourth location—the UCLA Store’s Hill Top Shop.
In an effort to tackle food insecurity, the CalFresh program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), supports low-income individuals with monthly benefits of up to $291 for fresh food and groceries.
“The Hill Top Shop is conveniently located in the heart of the Hill, making it one of the most accessible stores for students,” said Peter Poon, UCLA Store director. “For many, it’s just a short walk from their dorms or apartments, eliminating the need for a car or a long commute to purchase fresh food. By bringing CalFresh to this location, it is easier for Bruins to get the groceries they need without leaving campus.”
Since the first CalFresh launch in 2022, the UCLA Store — a Student-Run Enterprise of Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) — has collectively processed over 142,000 electronic benefit transfer (EBT) transactions, reinforcing the importance of this program for students and the Bruin community. The UCLA Store in Ackerman Union was the first campus location to accept EBT for eligible food transactions in August 2022, followed by the Health Sciences Store in December 2023 and the LuValle Commons Store in January 2024.
