Tom Beres now leading food service sector at ASUCLA
Assuming his role on July 1, Tom Beres was promoted to director of Food Services, leading the divisions of ASUCLA Restaurants, ASUCLA Catering and ASUCLA Concessions.
Los Angeles, Calif., July 31, 2025 – Please join Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) in welcoming the newest member of its executive management group, Thomas Beres! A career progression from his previous role as assistant food services director, Tom will now lead the ASUCLA Food Services division, overseeing the entire catering, concessions and food operations.
Tom Beres, ASUCLA Food Services director
Tom’s appointment follows the well-deserved retirement of former ASUCLA Food Services Director, Cindy Bolton, in June after a dedicated 35-year career with the organization. Serving in his new capacity, Tom will continue the modernization of food service operations, including updating menus and enhancing the service standards. His top priorities include point-of-sale and inventory technology upgrades, introducing new food concepts to campus, collaborating with Bruin Dine to ensure widespread access to food and expanding sustainability efforts with the launch for Reusables at Greenhouse.
“I am deeply passionate about food, it has been a central part of my life since I began working in restaurants at 16 years old,” Tom said. “Cooking has always been something I’ve loved and I continue that tradition by preparing dinner for my family every evening. I’m truly excited about the opportunity to lead and bring meaningful, lasting improvements to the dining experience at UCLA, while making a positive impact on the campus community.”
In his professional culinary history, Tom has filled the roles of chef de cuisine at the Rockefeller Center’s Rainbow Room, high-level chef positions at Disney and Warner Bros., general manager for Aramark in Southern California, as well as experience in hospitality, corporate and fine-dining sectors. He holds an Associate’s degree from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and spent two years working abroad in France and Italy to learn classical European techniques.
