UCLA Bruins: Art in the Union entries are now open for artwork submissions
UCLA students can submit their original artwork to Art in the Union until May 4 for a chance to win $600, as well as have their work featured in the ASUCLA Student Union.
Los Angeles, Calif., April 21, 2025— Let’s paint the scene: Associated Students UCLA (ASUCLA) is having its annual Art in the Union contest, and UCLA student submissions are now being accepted. Bruins interested in participating in the contest have until May 4 to turn in their pieces to the ASUCLA Student Union information window, which can be found on A-Level, Ackerman Union.
The Art in the Union competition is hosted yearly by the ASUCLA Student Union to promote students’ artistic expression. The winners will receive a cash prize of $600, and their original artwork will be exhibited in ASUCLA Student Union buildings throughout campus.
“The Art in the Union contest encourages UCLA students to showcase their various and unique talents,” Pamela Lewis, ASUCLA Student Union Services director. “The contest offers a creative outlet for all students and is a representation of the hard work within the Bruin community.”
All UCLA students, including UCLA Extension students, are eligible to submit their work for this friendly competition. Accepted pieces include original paintings, drawings, textiles and graphic illustrations. Any statues and submissions with food, electrical equipment or batteries will not eligible.
Accepted entries for Art in the Union will be displayed in the Kerckhoff Hall Art Gallery from May 5-16. The public can enjoy the original pieces as the Art in the Union selection committee reviews to select this year’s winner(s).
The official announcement of the winners will be at the formal reception on May 15 from 4-6 p.m. Following, the winning commissioned work(s) can be found across the ASUCLA facilities and buildings of Ackerman Union, Kerckhoff Hall, North Campus Student Center and LuValle Commons.
The 2024 Art in the Union contest featured three winning pieces, including “Carousel” by second-year world arts and cultures student Katie Fang, “A Friend I Could Never Replace” by fourth-year art student Maia Faith Hadaway and “Half the Sky” by first-year art student Yifei Wu.
Since 1972, ASUCLA has hosted this contest, selecting up to five winning pieces made by UCLA students each contest. For more information about Art in the Union, visit the webpage linked here. Stay up to date with Art in the Union deadlines, announcements and more by following @asucla on Instagram.
