Recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month at UCLA
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Now is a great time to be reminded of ASUCLA’s mental health resources, some UCLA organizations to join and general information for Bruins. This Mental Health Awareness Month, take a moment to pause and check in with yourself. Whether you utilize the resources below or not, it’s important to recognize the value of prioritizing your mental well-being.
ASUCLA Student Union programs
In observation of Mental Health Awareness Month, consider attending a Massage Monday or Wellness Wednesday event hosted by ASUCLA’s Student Union. For Massage Mondays, the event is a free massage session for those who want to relax, and for Wellness Wednesdays, Bruins can participate in a range of calming activities to destress like crafts. There are several of these Student Union events held throughout May, as well as throughout the fall, winter and spring quarters. To stay up to date on Student Union events, follow @asucla on Instagram through the link below.
Student organizations
Consider joining a student organization that focuses on health and wellness, such as Active Minds or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Further resources
Siena Wong, a writer of the BenefitsU email blogs, and her peers put together a website called “Better Bruins” that aims to provide UCLA mental health resources and perspectives. Better Bruins shares a range of information on mental health support at UCLA, from on-campus and online resources — such as Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Resilience In Your Student Experience Center (RISE) at UCLA — to student activism and research related to mental health. For student perspectives on focusing on mental health — through blogs, vlogs, surveys and more — and more mental health resources, check out Better Bruins by clicking the link below.
