Go green at Greenhouse with Reusables

ASUCLA continues to make strides towards food sustainability on campus with a new collaboration with Reusables! Reusables is a technology platform that reduces single-use or disposable waste by offering reusable containers to grab food. Now at Greenhouse — a self-serve buffet with fresh ingredients and a rotating menu — Bruins can use Reusables food containers to grab a meal, offering a free, zero-waste and leakproof alternative to single-use plates and take-home clamshells. How to use reusable

  1. Scan the QR code at the entrance of Greenhouse to sign up for Reusables

  2. Enter your information (i.e. name, email, phone number etc.).

  3. Once completed, you will receive your “reuser ID.”

  4. Grab a reusable container and start adding food.

  5. At checkout, Greenhouse staff will scan the QR code on your container, as well as your reuser ID. Your container is now checked out for five days (You can always return it sooner!).

  6. Once done with your reusable container, return it to one of the smart return bins in Ackerman Union, Level 1, by scanning the QR code on your container to drop it off. The containers are then washed and fully sanitized before reuse.

If the reusable container is not returned within 5 days, there will be a $5 hold placed on the user’s credit card on file. The hold will be removed if the container is returned within 30 days.

So next time you’re grabbing a bite at Greenhouse, why not go green while you're at it? It’s easy, free and helps keep ASUCLA eco-friendly — one meal at a time. Plus, this new container makes it easy to store food on the go — whether in your backpack during class or to take home — combining practicality with sustainability. Give it a try, and be part of building a cleaner, greener ASUCLA!
