Overview of October observances
October is a month to celebrate rich histories and cultures across America. This month, we observe Filipino American History Month and Indigenous Peoples’ Day — honoring the stories and contributions of these communities, past and present. Filipino American History Month
According to the Asian Art Museum, Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation. October is recognized as Filipino American History Month to honor the history and accomplishments of Filipinos in the United States. Indigenous Peoples’ Day
This year, Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated on Oct. 15 — an observance that recognizes Indigenous communities that have lived in the Americas for centuries. On this day, we honor the many contributions of indigenous people in the U.S., their right to self-governance and ways of life. Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month began on Sept. 15 and continues through Oct. 15. This month honors the achievements of Hispanic/Latinx Americans and coincides with the independence days of several Latin American countries, such as Costa Rica and Honduras.
